This policy explains what information Spirit World (the “Game”) collects, how it’s used, and your choices. The Game is operated by James Ward (“we”, “us”). The short version: we collect what’s needed to run the Game, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t use advertising or analytics trackers.
What we collect
When you sign in. You sign in with Google or Discord. We receive your email address, an account identifier from that provider, and basic profile details the provider shares (such as your name or username and avatar). We never receive your Google or Discord password.
When you play. Your username, characters and their progress, inventory, and in-game activity; your friends list; and private messages you send to friends, which we store so your conversation history is available. Public in-game chat is relayed to nearby players in real time.
When you subscribe. Purchases are sold through Onelink, Stripe’s merchant-of-record service. Stripe collects your payment details and billing address (to process payment and calculate tax); we never see or store your full card number. We store your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, your plan, and when your current billing period ends, so we know whether your account has premium.
Technical information. Like any online service, our servers and service providers process your IP address and basic connection details to connect you to the Game. Our servers keep error logs to help fix crashes. We don’t use these to track you.
Browser storage. The Game stores your sign-in session and a few settings in your browser’s local storage. These are needed for the Game to work. We don’t use advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies, on the Game or on this website.
How we use it
To run the Game and your account; to provide premium and handle billing; to keep the Game safe and enforce our Terms of Service; to fix bugs and improve the Game; and to contact you about your account or subscription when needed. We don’t sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles.
What other players can see
Your username, character names and appearance, in-game activity, and public chat messages are visible to other players. Private messages are visible to you and the friend you’re messaging.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that help us run the Game, and only what they need:
- Supabase: sign-in and our database (accounts, characters, messages)
- Stripe (including Onelink): payments, subscriptions, sales tax, and billing support
- Hetzner: our game servers
- Upstash: short-lived session data
- Cloudflare: hosting for this website
- Google and Discord: sign-in, when you choose them (Discord also delivers our private server crash alerts)
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our players or the Game. If the Game is ever transferred to a new owner, your information would transfer with it under this policy.
Our Discord community server is separate from the Game. If you join it, Discord’s own privacy policy applies there.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and game data while your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and game data within 30 days, except records we must keep for legal, tax, or accounting reasons (for example, payment records held by Stripe). Server error logs are kept only for a limited time.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your information by emailing spiritworldroot@gmail.com from the email address on your account. You can delete individual characters in the Game at any time, and manage or cancel your subscription from Manage Subscription on the main menu.
If you’re in the EU or UK, we process your information to perform our agreement with you (running the Game and your subscription), for our legitimate interests (keeping the Game secure, preventing abuse, and improving it), and to meet legal obligations. You have the rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to, and port your data, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
If you’re in California or another US state with privacy laws, you have the right to know, correct, and delete your personal information. We don’t sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, and we won’t treat you differently for exercising your rights.
Children
The Game isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security and storage
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, such as encrypted connections and access controls, but no online service is perfectly secure. Your information is processed in the United States and may be processed in other countries where our service providers operate.
Changes
If we change this policy in a significant way, we’ll let you know in the Game or on this site before the change takes effect.
